Lightning Struck- a reminder to LIVE!
I’ll start by saying I really wish I had a topically correct photo to go with this post, but I haven’t achieved it yet, and I decided when I began this journey that I would provide my own photography. As it turns out Photographing lightning is a bit of a challenge for an amateur, who knew! (Please note tone of humor and sarcasm here…) I plan on meeting that challenge, but I know it will take time, and I need to get this particular post written before the moment fades. Lightning- stunning in an instant A couple weeks ago I had a moment that, although I’d rather not repeat, I…

My 2020 Fire pit project, made with love!
I’ve had a few projects I’ve been working on to make life a bit more comfortable and keep me busy. This week I’ll fill you in on our new fire pit. I can’t imagine having a camp, or even a home with out one. This year though, I decided to upgrade a bit from the hole in the ground we’ve been working with. We’ve been working with just a basic hole in the ground that my daughters and I dug, and I lined with fieldstone for years. There’s nothing wrong with it. We’ve gotten a lot of enjoyment from it through the years, not to mention the cost was $0.…

Time Is Like A River- Enjoy The Ride
“Time is like a river made up of the events which happen, and a violent stream; for as soon as a thing has been seen, it is carried away, and another comes in its place, and this will be carried away too.” ― Marcus Aurelius (Emperor of Rome), Meditations written in 167 A.C.E. Our life starts with birth. I think most mothers would agree that is a turbulent, but incredibly beautiful time. As painful, and scary as it can be we also want to hold on to it. Looking from a baby’s perspective I’d say it’s at least very scary. Everything is new. That is the point at which we…

Silver Lake- A Day’s Adventure
So, my husband took a few days off this past weekend. He works a lot, so it stood out. While the girls and I are fine mostly staying near home he doesn’t sit still well. I prefer to make my outings “count.” I go further, but less often. This weekend he had an idea that ended up being a really good compromise. We drove a few hours south to go on a hike we had meant to do before Eldest was even born. (That’s almost 20 years ago!) Back to the past for me Silver Lake has always held a special place for me. It was my mom’s favorite hike,…

Water usage on the property
So, in my previous post I wrote about my little garden. That little garden obviously requires water on a regular basis, but there isn’t a faucet I can just turn on. I’ve been hauling water several times a week to make sure my garden stays hydrated. It’s been an interesting, and surprisingly rewarding project. At first my garden was just the one little whiskey barrel, but It includes several little “pots” now, and it has been quite hot and dry here for Vermont, especially for Potted” plants. They say you don’t truly appreciate water until you have had to carry your own. I have been lucky in my life when…

My little Garden Project
I’ve been a bit busy lately on my latest project. I’ve had at least a small garden most years. It’s not always terribly successful, but we get some veggies from it, and it gives me something to do that feels good for me and our family. I pull my girls out there too even though it’s generally my own project. The last couple years have been challenging because we intend to buy our own place, but haven’t quite yet. When that happens, we will be moving, and if I have planted my little garden here it will likely be lost to us. We have however, found the place we plan…

Independence Day- Let’s Stay Independent
One step at a time. For now let’s enjoy what we have accomplished. Ok, I know we’re all tired. It’s been crazy this year since at least March. I’m sure we all either need a break, or to get out and do something. It’s mid summer here in the U. S. and a big holiday is upon us. Despite vast differences I think we all need to take a break and enjoy this holiday for what it is. I’ll keep the history lesson short and get to my point. Turbulent times made us On Independence day we celebrate the Declaration that we were a sovereign nation separate from an oppressive…

Is anyone in charge of your finances?
I grew up without many resources I’m not a financial professional at all. My experience comes mostly from living without much. I’ve done pretty well with very little for many years though. Most of my life actually. I grew up with a one parent household, and a very frugal parent. For a little while I was single and had an income of my own. It wasn’t a huge income, but I did work myself into a professional level. Being single I wasn’t completely broke all of the time. I could pretty much buy what I felt like when I felt like it. I hadn’t quite mastered keeping trach of my…

Get kids to love good food- Have fun in the kitchen
Once again, the other day I didn’t have to worry about cooking. In fact I had a pretty special dinner. Youngest made those of us brave enough to eat it fried octopus! (It was delicious btw) And no I didn’t spend a ton on it either. I bought it on sale, around $4 dollars and some odd cents per pound. I stored it securely in our freezer to await the right evening. A couple nights ago everything worked out with the right combination of us home, and one kid feeling creative. In my house this is actually a pretty regular occurrence! Maybe not Octopus for dinner, but me not having…

5 best ways to work on a positive attitude!
Having a positive attitude is good for you physically! Did you know that keeping yourself in a positive mindset will actually help you physically? They say laughter is the best medicine. They say it for a reason. Here are 5 best ways I’ve found really help maintain a positive mindset. 1. Meditate, or find some time to sit outside doing absolutely nothing! I’ve incorporated this into my morning routine along with my morning coffee and water. Sometimes I meditate, sometimes I just make a point to sit on the porch before I start my day. In case meditation is a new concept for you, it’s really just focusing on nothing…
