Embrace All-Hallows Eve and see your kids grow
Ok, I’ll admit Halloween is a fun time of year. Around here it’s more about the girls since it’s not particularly my favorite holiday, but I do enjoy watching them create and enjoy their own festivities. I at least can embrace Halloween for what it gives to them, and inadvertently gives me as well. Halloween is about death, and letting go, which has to happen in order for there to be renewals (Like spring….) I have to let go in order for them to really blossom. I also have to recognize (and celebrate) how far they have come. Halloween in our family has always been a holiday that I leave…

Why I’ll never be your average feminist
Ok, so I have mentioned that I was an Aviation technician prior to starting a family before. I know a bit about having an untraditional experience. I’m sure you might assume I’d be all into all the feminist movements, right? Wrong. This is why. Don’t get me wrong. I’m all about women doing anything and everything they choose to do with their lives. I absolutely LOVE learning about women who were or are first or only females in their field. (It doesn’t matter which field, though I do have a soft spot for aviation, which is rich with these stories.) Sometimes we need potentially uncomfortable experiences to broaden our horizons…

New Workout-Why Did I Do That To Myself!
So, this spring I restarted Tae Kwon Do. Like many things last year it was canceled last year. The class ended just prior to the season of tournaments and testing. In a normal year it would have ended shortly after testing until starting in the fall again. I was “this close” to earning my yellow belt, then it all got called off. As nervous as I was for testing and such it was a bit disappointing too. I have always felt strongly about finishing what I start. I’m also quite aware that we do need to be active for ourselves. Instead of ending my first season, having a couple months…

7 Months in- A Year With My Camera- This is how it’s going
So, as you may have figured out I started this whole thing out of embracing a love of photography. I also feel strongly about continuously striving to learn more and staying current in your education and activities outside your family life. This is my experience so far in the project I’ve been working on in this recent endeavor. I joined a year long photography course aptly named “A Year With My Camera.” This is my review of how this it’s going- almost 7 months in! This photography course is appropriate for complete beginners. Emma Davis is the creator, and runs the course. It’s simple, and free to take the email…

Retain Your Independence, Even In a Marriage
So, It’s Independence Day. I’d like to write about the importance of either maintaining your independence or regaining it while also running your family life. It’s a good time to reflect on the importance of not just how our country gained its independence, and how important that is but how important it is to appreciate the independence we maintain for ourselves. I believe that can be the best catalyst in actually helping society in general. The trick is to do it with an open mind. Great minds that don’t always agree but are willing to work together is how truly great things happen. Getting married doesn’t change this fact. So,…

My magical new sunrise routine stuck, here’s how!
My whole life I have been a very late riser. Seriously, stayed in bed in the morning as long as I could get away with it! Since having kids that wasn’t all that late very often, but if I could get away with sleeping in I definitely did! I also felt like my most productive time was later in the day. The only time I got to myself was after everyone else went to bed. That was getting later and later. I had finally worked out an evening routine I felt good about, but included me taking time for me. It was getting later and later due to kids getting…

Check it out- I’m On Youtube
I will be uploading relaxing scenes for when you have limited time or ability to get out and find them yourself so you can still experience them through my new Youtube channel! I just uploaded my first video last week! This Youtube channel will be videos to help you “get out and enjoy nature” even if you can’t actually get out of the house and enjoy a quiet moment of your own. My youtube channel was inspired by the trouble I had in properly uploading the video I had wanted to post to share with you while I was on vacation. Instead, I had to compromise and upload the shorter…

My Bear Encounter, What It Taught Me About Life
Some moments just stick with you forever! This bear encounter was one of those moments. I was sixteen and we were spending our family vacation in Maine. This was pretty normal for us, and I usually enjoyed it. To be honest I enjoyed this one too, and I wound up with a story that has influenced me for much of my life. When it started though, I’ll admit I was a bit perturbed, and that was over a boy. This trip hadn’t been planned much in advance, and I wasn’t going to be home for our regularly scheduled phone call. I wasn’t able to let him know either. (Yeah, this…

3 reasons you need to make yourself take a vacation!
You really need a vacation. You know you do. I know you do, but you have all the reasons in the world that it can’t be done. It’s the wrong time. You don’t have enough money. Traveling with family is just so much harder than it was before kids. Well, I’m here to dispute all of that. You need one now, more than ever! No one else who isn’t in your home all day, every day has real perspective of what you actually have been doing all day, every day. They only see the times you purposefully clear in order to spend time with them. You know your job so…

Staying Fluid In My Plans to Enjoy the Beach!
Ok, so This trip was still all I wanted it to be, but the plans I had in place changed a bit. It is actually important to be able to be a bit fluid in your plans anyway. This trip was definitely a reminder of that skill. Of course it’s important to take care of your own needs, but be open to doing that in different ways than you may have planned. This is what I wrote before I went on my trip, while I was still in the planning stages. It’s an interesting comparison. I have generally prioritized planning any trips well since having children. It’s also important to…
